1) The food situation on the island of Madoera, across Soerabaja, has gotten so bad that the inhabitants cross the Street of Madoera in prahns and go to Java, where they are received in a kampung and are registered (close ups waiting Indonesians). 2) In Denpasar on Bali a conference is held with the Dutch authorities and representatives of different parts of Indonesia (no representatives of the Republic of Soekarno). Goal of the meeting is the foundation of the state of East-Indonesia. The governor of the Dutch East Indies, dr. H.J. van Mook, and Indonesian representatives give speeches. T.G.R. Soekawati (not shown) is elected president of East-Indonesia. SHOTS (Bali): - ext. temples and idols; - ext. Bali hotel, where the conference takes place; - two guards of the Militairy Police; - overview of the conference hall: participants are sitting and listening, make notes etc.; several speeches; - D.M.
